Jiri Prochazka announced himself as the newest contender in the UFC light-heavyweight division with a stunning knockout of former title contender Volkan Oezdimir.

The former Rizin world champion was making his debut on Fight Island at UFC 251 and made sure to grab as many headlines as he could whilst closing out the preliminary card on Yas Island.

Prochazka landed a massive head kick, followed by a barrage of punches in the second round to leave Oezdimir on the cage, before landing a one-two which crumpled ‘No Time’ to the canvas.

The Czech fighter was as braggadocios and extravagant as many fans had hoped and the first round featured plenty of gestures and taunts.

However, he picked up the pace in the second round and the huge right hand he landed at the start of the second forced referee Marc Goddard to step in and help the stricken former world title contender.

“I want to take a title – that’s my mission. That’s my mission here,” Prochazka said after the fight.

Prochazka recorded his 11th consecutive victory on Fight Island and his 24th by stoppage in total and could well be a contender at 205lbs.

World champion Jon Jones appeared to walk away from the sport earlier this summer owing to a pay dispute, but was expected to face Jan Blachowicz before his sudden departure.
