Since originally being launched in early 2020, around 10 million people have been supported by the furlough scheme, with this number likely to grow as the payments can be extended into April.
Some workers may have been fortunate enough to return to regular work throughout 2020 as lockdown rules changed but at any moment, they may find themselves needing additional support.
Fortunately, the Government details it is still possible to claim Universal Credit even where a person has been furloughed, so long as they’re on a low income overall.
It should also be noted earnings from furlough will be treated like any other earnings as part of a Universal Credit claim, meaning the eventual payments could be reduced.
