Tax changes: Rishi Sunak may consider changes to controversial tax break | Personal Finance | Finance

“While this tactic will raise more tax revenue, there remain many problems with the proposed reforms, as highlighted in the recent House of Lords report.

“Many groups are continuing to campaign for further delays, but I think it is unlikely that HM Treasury will be willing to forgo the opportunity to collect the additional revenue, regardless of fairness or the cost to a business.”

Ms Harris went on to discuss the speculation that Mr Sunak may introduce a temporary cut to UK VAT rates.

“There have been rumours that the government is considering a temporary VAT cut in a bid to kickstart the economy and this is particularly useful as it could be targeted at sectors that are most in need of the stimuli,” she said.
