Trevor Sinclair has questioned Jesse Lingard’s imminent loan move to West Ham.
The Manchester United midfielder is on the verge of joining the Hammers until the end of the season having made just three appearances so far this term.
A successful loan spell in east London could force Lingard into Gareth Southgate’s England plans for Euro 2020.
However, Sinclair, who played for West Ham between 1998 and 2003, is unsure if the 28-year-old will get regular playing time at the Hammers.
He told talkSPORT: “Is he good enough to get in that midfield three? “Is he good enough to replace Antonio if Antonio needs a rest or gets injured? I don’t see it. I’m not sure.
“Why would he go to be a squad player at West Ham when he’s a squad player at Manchester United?
“So for me this comes across as a bit of a Manuel Pellegrini [move], a bit of stardust behind it, he won the Premier League with Manchester City. Was he a good fit for the club? No, he wasn’t.”

On Friday, West Ham boss David Moyes confirmed Lingard was close to officially joining the club.
He said: “I think Jesse will give us more attacking options in as far as he can play nearly all the positions along the frontline, and he can play as a midfield player as well.
“I don’t want to be in a position where I’m bringing someone in just for the sake of it.
“I’ve always said if I can look in my own group to find solutions I will try and do so.”
