Jose Mourinho is making an example of Dele Alli at Tottenham, according to former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

The Dutchman – who returned for a second stint in the dugout at League One Burton last week – claims he was treated in the same manner by the Special One at Stamford Bridge back in 2004.

Hasselbaink had just finished top of the scoring charts for the Blues once more, but was shown the door by Mourinho after the cash-rich west London side splashed out on Didier Drogba and Mateja Kezman to bolster their forward line.

And Hasselbaink believes Alli – who has been linked with a reunion with ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino at PSG – is feeling the full force of the same Jose treatment in the current day.

“Mourinho wanted to use me as an example, that’s how he managed,” Hasselbaink, who scored 258 times in a career spanning 18 years, told the Mail.

Darren Gough says Dele Alli would be better suited playing abroad but Liverpool fan Alfie says he’d like him on Merseyside

“He wanted to show that he could let big players go. I was still top scorer, even though two really good strikers had signed that season.

“Mourinho wanted to show who was boss, and I was the one he used. Yes, Chelsea then won the league, but I could have added to the team that year.

“But Mourinho has always done that. He’s doing it now with Dele Alli at Spurs. That’s how he manages, that’s how he gets success, you can’t fault him.”
