“Having an experienced third party dedicated to your business accounts will not only ensure you stay compliant and meet deadlines, but also take on the responsibility of dealing HMRC communications and deciphering what is real and what is bogus.”
Cifas, the UK’s leading fraud prevention service, has also issued a warning to UK taxpayers, urging them to be vigilant of scams as the deadline approaches.
On top of fraudsters taking advantage of the coronavirus pandemic during 2020, HMRC received more than 846,000 reports of suspicious communications impersonating them in the 12 months leading up to November 2020.
This includes more than 300,000 suspicious phone calls – a 47 percent increase from the previous 12-month period.
Mike Haley, CEO of Cifas, said: “As the deadline for self-assessment tax returns approaches, criminals will look to dupe taxpayers, many of which may already be struggling due to the economic impacts of the pandemic.
