Free bus pass: Rishi Sunak urged to lower ‘unfair’ eligibility age to help with travel | Personal Finance | Finance

Some 100,000 signatures will mean the petition is considered for debate in Parliament under rules laid out on all official petitions.

The state pension age, as the petition identifies, can have a significant impact on when a person receives a free bus pass.

Indeed, with the state pension age rising, it is likely those living in England will have to wait even longer to receive their free bus pass entitlement if the law is not changed.

At present, the state pension age is 66, however, it is set to rise incrementally in the coming years.

This, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has said, is due to the increase in life expectancy across the United Kingdom.
