Everyone is talking about whether Khabib Nurmagomedov is going to return or not.
When we thought we were going to get a decision yesterday, UFC president Dana White essentially got a ‘maybe’ from The Eagle and he remains the lightweight champion.
The Russian says he wants to wait and see which lightweight impresses him next weekend at UFC 257 with the top two fights on the card featuring world-class lightweights, including Conor McGregor.
Khabib’s last outing came against Justin Gaethje last October at UFC 254. The 29-0 fighter submitted Gaethje in the second round, but he opened up to White during their meeting about the hilarious trash-talk that went on during their fight.
White was asked if Max Holloway – who had a stunning victory over Calvin Kattar on Saturday – was the coolest fighter in the UFC.
“You know what’s funny when you say that about Max, and it’s so true, I was with Khabib last night and he was telling me – and I didn’t know this, maybe you guys did – all the stuff that him and Gaethje were talking about during their fight,” White told the media at the post-show press conference.
“Gaethje hit him with a couple of shots and he thought Gaethje looked kind of weird so he pointed at him and said ‘you have jet-lag’ in the middle of the fight.
“Gaethje said ‘no, I don’t’ and hit him with an uppercut and a left-hook, then Khabib said something to him again and he leg kicked him.
“And then I guess when he took him down, Khabib was on top of him, he said ‘now what are you going to do?’ and he’s telling me all this s*** these two are talking about during their fight. First of all, the fight didn’t go that long, I don’t know how much o a conversation they could of had! But, Holloway is one of those guys too.”
White says he will meet with Khabib again after UFC 257 back in Las Vegas and then we’ll get a final decision.
