Capitol mob death threats in clip shown at Trump impeachment trial – ‘Hang Mike Pence!’ | World | News

The footage has emerged as part of the ongoing impeachment trial of Donald Trump, which began this week. The ex-US president faces a charge of “incitement of insurrection” following the violence that struck the nation’s capital on January 6.

Yesterday marked the first full day of the trial, with impeachment managers providing clips and excerpts from Mr Trump’s speeches before the event unfolded.

It also included footage of the riots, taken from inside the Capitol building. In one clip, a mob appeared to shout “Hang Mike Pence,” AP news reports.

The Vice President was later evacuated from the building as the mob continued to break in.

“And they were just feet away from one of the doors to this chamber, where many of you remained at that time.”

Rep. Plasket later added: “The mob was looking for Vice President Pence because of his patriotism – because the Vice President had refused to do what the President demanded and overturn the election results.”

The footage showed a security officer engaging with the mob and leading them away from where the Senate chamber was.

A rioter who came close to the chamber was seen carrying a baseball bat.
